On Mahashivaratri, the great night of Shiva, the mantra Om Namah Shivaya will play continuously in Shaktinilaya Hall. The Bhagavan Nityananda Temple will be open for meditation.

The night of the new moon in late February is especially sacred to Lord Shiva. On this day, the merit of each repetition is said to equal the merit of a thousand repetitions at other times.

A Day of Siddha Yoga Practices for Young People (ages 13-30)

This event is for young people ages 13 to 30. The focus of this day will be the Siddha Yoga practice of seva, selfless service.

Throughout the day you will engage in the Siddha Yoga practices of meditation, chanting, and seva. To support your practices, there will be time for reflection, journaling, movement, and discussion. You will also have opportunities to share with each other about your understanding and experience of a teaching from Gurumayi on the spiritual practice of seva.

Please bring the following items:

  • a journal and pen or pencil

  • your meditation cushion or asana

You may wish to purchase a Lunch with your registration. Lunch is also available for purchase in Amrit Cafe on the day of the event.

Ashram Day Fee:

A Day Honoring the Daily Schedule of the Siddha Yoga Ashram in Oakland

Swami Muktananda created the Ashram Daily Schedule as a means to fortify and sanctify the Ashram environment. Strengthen your sadhana by participating in the Siddha Yoga practices that have been performed regularly at the Siddha Yoga Ashram in Oakland since its founding fifty years ago.

The day will begin with the recitation of Shri Guru Gita and end with the Arati in the Bhagavan Nityananda Temple. Throughout the day you will engage in the spiritual practices of seva, meditation, and chanting. 

To support your practices, there will also be time for gentle movement. An art activity will be available for families.

Everyone is welcome to attend this full-day event, where we will focus on Gurumayi's Message for 2025.

This event is for people of all ages. 

Elements of the day include

  • Recitation of Shri Guru Gita, followed by breakfast

  • Reflection and journaling on Gurumayi’s teaching 

  • Hatha yoga stretches

  • Siddha Yoga Sadhana Circles 

  • Seva projects

  • Chanting and meditation

Please bring the following items:

  • a journal and pen or pencil

  • your meditation cushion or asana

Ashram Day Fee:

  • Ages 25 and over: $15

  • Ages 13 to 24: $5

  • Ages 12 and under: no fee

Preparation Satsang for Sweet Surprise® 2025

In this satsang, we will prepare for Sweet Surprise 2025 by listening to a talk by Siddha Yoga meditation teacher Swami Ishwarananda called “The Power of Listening to Learn—The Power of Learning to Listen.”

We’ll be participating via an audio webcast produced by the SYDA Foundation. After the audio webcast, we will chant and meditate.

Siddha Yoga Satsang for Families

In this Siddha Yoga satsang, designed especially for families with children 12 and under, families will engage with the Siddha Yoga teachings and practices together, such as chanting and meditation. There will be a dancing saptah as part of this satsang. During a dancing saptah, the continuous chanting of the name of God is accompanied by dancing in a circle in a series of measured steps as an act of devotion and a joyful experience of meditation in motion.

After the satsang, families are invited to enter the Bhagavan Nityananda Temple for the Kundalini Stavaha chant.
